The Path of Selfless Service

My Journey to Modern Monasticism

In the depths of my heart, a decision that had been germinating for many years has finally blossomed into unwavering clarity. After years of dedicated service and spiritual exploration, I have embraced the path of a modern celibate monk with selfless service to humanity.

This journey didn’t begin with a sudden epiphany, but rather through years of quiet transformation through seva (selfless service). Like a river gradually carving its path through stone, each act of service helped sculpt away the layers of ego that separated me from my true purpose. Through my experiences with Her Holiness Jagadguru Sai Maa’s Lakshmi Devi Mishra Darsha’s and the profound insights gained from Kevin Trudeau’s Money & Relationship processes, Gurukev,, Success Mastery Course and Science of Personal Mastery Course. I’ve come to understand that the highest form of spiritual practice is the complete dedication of one’s life to serving others.

The question “Who am I?” has been my constant companion on this journey. As Sri Ramana Maharshi teaches, this simple yet profound inquiry leads us to the heart of our existence. Through this contemplation, I’ve discovered that my deepest fulfillment comes not from worldly pursuits, but from dissolving my individual identity into the ocean of service to humanity.

Embracing modern monk isn’t about renunciation in the traditional sense โ€“ it’s about channeling life’s energy into its highest purpose. In today’s world, being a modern monk doesn’t mean retreating to a cave or monastery. Instead, it means living in the world while maintaining the inner silence and dedication of a monastic life. It means transforming every action into an offering of pure devotion.

The path of seva has taught me that true happiness isn’t found in the temporary pleasures of the world, but in the eternal joy of serving others. When we serve with pure devotion, we become channels for divine grace. Each act of service becomes a meditation, each interaction a prayer, and each moment an opportunity to express divine love.

This commitment to modern monk and selfless service isn’t a rejection of life โ€“ it’s an embrace of life in its fullest expression. It’s about directing all of one’s energy, creativity, and love toward the highest good of all beings. The journey to Guruhood isn’t about achieving a position or status; it’s about becoming empty enough to let divine grace flow through you unimpeded.

Living fearlessly in this path means surrendering completely to divine will, trusting that when we dedicate ourselves to serving humanity, the universe provides everything we need. As Sri Ramana Maharshi says, “Whatever burdens are thrown on God, He bears them.” This truth has become my lived experience.

As I look back on the many years I’ve spent in selfless service, I see how each experience was preparing me for this full commitment. Every challenge was a lesson in letting go, every opportunity to serve was a step toward inner purification. The decision to fully embrace this path feels less like a choice and more like an acknowledgment of what has always been true in my heart.

In this modern world of constant distraction and material pursuit, choosing the path of a modern monk might seem counterintuitive. Yet, I’ve found that this path offers the deepest fulfillment possible โ€“ the joy of being a pure instrument of divine love and service.

My journey continues, not toward any destination, but deeper into the present moment, into each opportunity to serve, into each chance to express divine love through action. This is not the end of a journey, but rather a deeper commitment to the path that has always called to my heart โ€“ the path of selfless service, devotion, and love for all humanity.

With boundless gratitude and heartfelt affection,

Jojan Hendriks

“The sole purpose of service is to fulfill your longing to merge with and into the whole truth. Love and seva is a path to the inner world of Divine Loveโ€”and Grace rushes into this sacred heart, the abode of God. When one serves with purity of devotion, one is close to God or the Guru. Then one lives fearlessly, and continuous showers of graceโ€”as an ocean without tidesโ€”pour into the aspirant.โ€ Her Holiness Sai Maa

Only when you can reconcile with God and get clear with him, will you be empowered to unify and change the realities under which we live.

  2. It’s interesting where our paths lead us. I too have taken the path of Bramacharini with the guidance of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi Maat aka Ammachi The Hugging Saint . I lovingly identify as an Urban reNUNciate or Vairagi, given the name Sri LalitaDevi which means The Embodiment of The Divine Mother.
There is only Oneness. All path lead us home through flowing with the river of life.
